Pathfinders
• 7 week programme for primary aged children who have experienced the effects of violence/trauma, family separation, grief and loss in their lives.
• It explores feelings/behaviours’ that can manifest from these different experiences.
• The programme designed specifically for children and includes fun activities relevant to their age group.
• The programme also provides information and support to the parents/caregivers and may include on-going support if requested or required.
• It is funded and supported by the Helensville Women & Family Centre.
• The group facilitators are professionals who are experienced in working with children and young people.
• Parents/caregivers meet with a facilitator of the group who will explain about the programme and the ways in which parents/caregivers can be supported.
• An information pack is given and other support is offered through the HWFC Services.
• On completion of the group, a follow up plan for each family is drawn up with consent and input from the family.

Wahine Rangatira• A programme specifically requested by the Support Team at Kaipara College.
• The Team has identified that extra support is needed for girls in Year 9 and 10 who are struggling to adapt to the college environment. • The students involved in the programme are supported by the Year 13 Peer Support Team who focus on mentoring the students throughout the year. • The social issues addressed in the group that impact on their behaviour are; Drugs and Alcohol, Bullying, Grief, Teenage Relationships. |
Youth Counselling• The HWFC offers counselling to youth through referrals mainly from local primary schools and Kaipara College.
• Key Objective is to provide young people with a safe non-judgemental environment to work through issues that are concerning them. • The HWFC work closely with the Student Support Team at Kaipara College and where possible with the families. |
